Yet Another Funny Website: GraphJam
I am a long-time fan of I Can Has Cheezburger, a very funny website with animal pictures. Most of them are of cats. If you’re more into canine comedy, there’s I Can Has Hotdog. It turns out that the parent “company”, Pet Holdings (you gotta love double entendres), runs a whole bunch of websites like like that.
A recent edition to their collection is GraphJam. It’s a collection of funny charts and graphs. As a data mining geek, I just love this format. I used to be a huge fan of Indexed. In fact, I have a bunch of her posts printed out in my office (with her permission). However, she hasn’t made a post that I found really funny in a long time. Too much of it is really obvious.
Here are some GraphJam posts I find really funny (I would show you the graphs, but it’s against their terms of use):
- Consequences of gay marriage
- When I was born…according to
- The Friend Zone
- Microsoft Office Autoformat
- A client can have their project _____
- leading cause of death, jack-o-lanterns
Getting users to provide valuable and popular content for free is the start of a brilliant business model. I say “Start”, because you still gotta get someone to give you money. They seem to be expanding, so they’re doing something right. Or at least convincing money-bearing people they are. Here are some of their other websites (all of which I recommend whenever you feel like jumping off a ledge, or defenestrating a co-worker:
- Pundit Kitchen (captioned political pictures)
- FailBlog (unintentionally funny signs and advertisements)
- Engrish Funny (signs and advertisements badly translated into English) (If you like this site, check out engrish.com
- Totally Looks Like (things/people that look like other things/people).
- ROFLRazzi (funny captioned celebrity pictures)
